Your Journey Story

Your life is full of all sorts of journeys: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, relational. Some of your journeys may make you feel like you're climbing a mountain. Maybe you're actually climbing a mountain. I tried hiking a mountain once. It was ridiculously hard. I wasn't conditioned or strong enough to climb that mountain because I didn't prepare correctly. So I had to turn around. I only made it for 30 minutes (15 minutes up and 15 minutes back). All the people with me who made it to the top of the mountain and back can (sadly) vouch for this!

Sometimes you don't make it up a mountain... The first time. But nothing is stopping you from preparing correctly for the next time you try to scale it! I look back on my very short mountain hiking experience and laugh. It was laughable! But next time I go up that mountain, I will be prepared. Right now I'm working on conditioning my body and getting it in the shape it needs to be to climb that mountain. I'll make sure to let you all know once I finally do it!

BUT THE POINT IS...

We all have our own journey stories, and have multiple ones throughout our life. Each of our journey stories is different, but they all are about how we've grown in some way.

Your spiritual journey story started in the Pre-Mortal Life with your Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ, and all of God's other children. And now you are here on this earth, living out a mortal life and learning how to become more like Heavenly Father. Then we will move on to the next life where we will have the opportunity to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and our families for all eternity.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, said in his April 2013 LDS General Conference address "Your Wonderful Journey Home":

"The journey ahead seemed so long and uncertain—so filled with risk.

It wouldn’t be easy, but you knew it was worth every effort.

So, there you stood on the edge of eternity, looking forward with unspeakable excitement and hope—and, I imagine, also with a degree of worry and fear.

In the end, you knew God would be just—that His goodness would triumph. You had participated in the great heavenly councils and knew that your Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, would provide a way for you to be cleansed from sin and rescued from physical death. You had faith that, in the end, you would rejoice and join your voice with a heavenly chorus singing praises to His holy name.

And so, you took a deep breath …

And a great step forward …

And here you are!

You have, each one of you, embarked on your own wonderful journey back to your heavenly home!"

We're all going to have many journeys in this life. Sometimes they'll kick our butts. Other times they'll make us happier than we've ever been before. Keep this life in perspective and remember to always try and approach things with a good attitude. And remember that you don't need to go it alone. Search the scriptures for guidance. Listen to the words of the living prophets. And know that the Saviour is walking alongside you and helping you to climb your mountains.

Helping Someone Up a Mountain

Many things could happen in a journey story...

Just make yours a good one.
